Competition organized by French Embassy in Armenia
“Dis-moi dix mots qui (ne) manquent pas d’air”
On 7th of June an event- awarding ceremony took place in the garden of French Embassy in Armenia. This year State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia participated in the events entitled “Crossed glances” and “Dis-moi dix mots qui (ne) manquent pas d’air” organized by French Embassy in Armenia.
The first one was a photo exhibition held on March 19 with participation of Armenian and French photographers; our students’ role there was interpreting to introduce the comments in Armenian.
The second one carrying the title “Dis-moi dix mots qui (ne) manquent pas d’air” was a task to introduce a 3-minute video on ecological issues using only ten words. Our students were delighted to participate in both of them. The head of External Relations of SAFAA, Mary Patvakanyan mentioned that the competence in French language was obligatory thus only those students who were proficient in French could apply for the event; our students-participants were Rozalia Nalbandyan-1st year BA student of Fashion Design, from Design and Decorative Applied Arts faculty, and 1st year MA student of Painting, Fine Arts faculty, Meri Karapetyan.
The participants were nearly from all HEIs of Armenia, 70 students in total. The first prize was awarded to Meri Karapetyan. Mary Patvakanyan recalls the latter’s emotions when receiving the prize: “When the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Jonathan Lacote was handing the certificate for the first place, Meri’s eyes were shining so brightly that I cannot forget”. The work introduced attracted the attention of the commission in terms of its artistic-visual nature and musical combination as well as the appropriate and targeted use of words. The second place was awarded to the representative of French University to Armenia and the 3rd one to the representative of Anatole Frantz School.
The other participant from SAFAA, RozaliaNalbandyan was also highly appreciated for her work, but the commission didn’t consider it expedient to award two participants from the same institution. She was awarded with a certificate for brilliant video. The first and second prize winners will be given an opportunity to travel to France till the end of the year that will be financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France; they will also take a two-week French language training courses.
