Erasmus+ mobility to Hungary, Eger
Samvel Hakobyan and Lilya Galstyan participated in the Erasmus+ ICM and spent the 2nd semester of 2023-2024 ac. year at Eszterházy Károly Catholic University in Eger, Hungary. Here are their impressions from their short-period studies at the above-mentioned institution.
“My experience of studying for one semester in Hungary, Eger, Eszterhazy Karoly Catholic University, had a significant impact on my creative development.
The University of Eger impressed me with its diversity and rich cultural environment. Here, I met talented students and professors who inspired me to develop new ideas and use new approaches in my painting. The university studios gave me the opportunity to work and explore different materials and techniques.
The time spent in Hungary allowed me to get to know a new culture, broaden my worldview, and make new friends. The beauty and historical sites of Eger inspired me, particularly the beautiful landscapes of Eger. The city, its churches, halls, and streets provided an excellent environment for creating and studying.
This exchange program contributed to my personal and professional development. My experience in Eger taught me to be more independent, flexible, and ready to accept new challenges. The time spent at the university also gave me the opportunity to attend various cultural events.
My experience as a Erasmus+ mobility programme student in Hungary was not limited to painting. There, I also learned a new language and cultural traditions, which enriched my overall knowledge and skills. I also had the opportunity to visit Italy, France, and, of course, many other places in Hungary, which will have a significant impact on my creative life for a long time.
This experience reinforced my belief that art has the power to unite people from different cultures and perspectives. I am grateful for this opportunity and hope to have more similar experiences in the future”.

“Participating in the Erasmus+ ICM as an art student at Eszterházy Károly Catholic University in Eger, Hungary, was a transformative experience for me. This charming city, known for its rich history and vibrant culture, was the perfect environment for my artistic growth.
One of the most interesting aspects of living in Eger was the opportunity to delve into various forms of art. Although my main focus was on traditional painting techniques, the university’s curriculum opened up new and exciting methods for me. For the first time, I learned the intricate art of collage-making. With its layered surfaces and creative freedom, this technique opened a new realm of artistic expression for me. Additionally, I had the chance to visit the Graphics Department and witness firsthand how graphic art is created, which broadened my understanding of the artistic world.
Interacting with students from different nations was crucial for accepting cultural diversities and being more open to them. I established long-lasting friendships with students from Hungary and various parts of the world, which was a greatly enriching experience, allowing me to deeply acquaint myself with their customs and traditions. One unforgettable event that took place during the “Art Camp” was the preparation of the Armenian dish, tolma. Besides having conversations about our cultural heritage, churches, and other historical monuments, making tolma was one of the ways to introduce our culture to international students and spark interest towards Armenia. These were truly beautiful moments of cultural exchange.
Living in Eger also helped me to easily immerse myself in Hungarian culture. The city’s historical sites, colourful buildings with their quaint roofs, and the city’s vibrancy endlessly inspired my art. The lively local festivals and the warm hospitality of the people made my time spent in Eger even more memorable.
Thus, the exchange program in Eger was an incredible journey of artistic and personal growth. The experiences I had, the skills I learned, and the friendships I made have left an indelible mark on my life. Eger, with its rich cultural history and welcoming community, will always hold a special place in my heart”.
