The necessity of existence of the exhibition hall, introducing an important link for activity of a HEI of fine arts is beyond doubt. Anyway, surprisingly the institute has never had one. The rector Aram Isabekyan concernd with this issue for long years, succeeded in realisation of his idea, using his personal links and with the financial support of his American-Armenian friend and businessman Albert Boyajian and providing some means from the extra-budgetary funds of the Academy. The former two auditoriums located at the right side of the first floor of the main building were completely renovated from ruins to an area with beautiful and modern design.
The opening of “Albert and Tove Boyajian” exhibition hall was held on 1st of May, 2001, blessed by His Eminence Archbishop Navasard Kchoyan Vicar of the Araratian Patriarchal Diocese of Armenian Apostolic Church, with participation of Albert Boyajian, US Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia for that time Michael Lemon and presence of art and culture figures and honoured guests. The first exhibition held on this prominent day was dedicated to Honoured painter Arpenik Nalbandyan’s works. It had a symbolic character for the fact that the latter was not only teaching at Fine Arts institute but was the first woman lecturer working with devotion and love. Even after her death the students have been speaking about her with gratitude and great respect for many years.
The existence of the exhibition hall made the institution’s creative and pedagogic life more complete and meaningful. Due to the active work evolved by the director Irina Isabekyan, art-critics Mher Isabekyan and Liana Khachatryan, the works of lecturers, students, graduates and other contemporary artists; thematic and group exhibitions as well as exhibitions of international artists are organized. The exhibition hall is also a place for introducing group, personal, course and conceptual projects that promote new creative ideas of students. The exhibition hall has become one of the important cultural centers of the capital in a very short period and thanks to the events initiated by the exhibition hall the public gets acquainted and follows the creative mind of youth and contemporary art trends.
